Free Motion Quilting Badge

About the Badge

The Free Motion Quilting Badge recognizes the development of quilting skills that go beyond straight-line stitching. This badge introduces Scouts to the technique of free motion quilting (FMQ), where the quilter moves the fabric freely under the needle to create continuous designs.

Badge Requirements

• Learn how to prepare your sewing machine for free motion quilting.

• Practice at least three free motion quilting motifs (e.g., loops, meanders, pebbles, flowers) using quilt sandwich samples.

• Sketch FMQ designs on paper to plan and improve stitch path consistency.

• Complete a quilted project that incorporates at least one free motion quilting design.

• Bonus: Incorporate lettering or signature stitching as part of your project or sampler.

Badge Options

Embroidered Patch

The embroidered patch consists of high-quality embroidery on a twill backing. The patch measures 2″ x 2″. The patch has a Pellon interfacing on the back to cover embroidery threads and is intended to be sewn-on. It is not an iron-on patch.

Vinyl Sticker

The sticker is a thick and durable vinyl that is weatherproof and waterproof. Vinyl sticker measures 2″ x 2″.
