About the Badge

The Applique Artisan Badge introduces Scouts to the technique of appliqué—adding fabric shapes to a background to create decorative designs. This badge emphasizes precision, creativity, and versatility as Scouts explore both hand and machine appliqué methods.

Badge Requirements

• Learn the basics of appliqué, including the difference between hand and machine techniques, and common methods such as needle-turn, fusible, and raw edge.

• Prepare and apply fabric shapes to a background using the appliqué method of your choice

• Practice stitching techniques such as straight stitch, zigzag, blanket stitch, or invisible hand stitching.

•  

  Complete a quilted item that incorporates appliqué in its design. This can be a mini quilt, pillow cover, wall hanging, or quilt block.

   

• Optional: Experiment with layering shapes, reverse appliqué, or creating your own original motif.

Badge Options

Embroidered Patch

The embroidered patch consists of high-quality embroidery on a twill backing. The patch measures 2″ x 2″. The patch has a Pellon interfacing on the back to cover embroidery threads and is intended to be sewn-on. It is not an iron-on patch.

Vinyl Sticker

The sticker is a thick and durable vinyl that is weatherproof and waterproof. Vinyl sticker measures 2″ x 2″.
